Charles R. "Tim" Thompson, 64, of Chillicothe, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 10, 2012, at his home. He was born February 12, 1948, in Ross County to the late Charles C. and Violet M. (Green) Thompson. On November 15, 1972, he married the former Laura J. Ray, who survives. Also surviving are his sons Chad R. Thompson, at home; Charles R. (Jennifer) Thompson II, of Florida; 2 grandsons; a sister Sandra (Mel) Jones; a brother Harold "Gene" (Sue) Thompson; a brother-in-law Charlie McDonald; his mother-in-law Betty Ray; a sister-in-law Penny (Kevin) Pierce; brothers-in-law Bill (Val) Ray and Johnny (Kim) Ray, all of Chillicothe; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; friends Bob Elliott; Ellis and Jo Johnson; and Danny, Missy and Morgan Kuhn; and his loving dog, "Tessie." In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Yvonne McDonald; and his father-in-law Harry Fred Ray. Charlie was a graduate of Chillicothe High School, Class of 1967. He led a life of service to his country and his community. He was an honorably discharged US Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Chillicothe Police Dept. as a Captain in 1998, following 28 years of service. He later retired from the Ross County Sherriff Dept. following ten years of service there. He was a lifetime member of: AMVETS, Post 4; VFW, Post 108; and American Legion, Post 62. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, May 19, at the VFW, Post 108, 115 E. Main St., where military honors will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. At his request, calling hours will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Adena Hospice, 111 W. Water St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
