March 2, 1933 — June 8, 2017

Charles Hartwell Pritchard, 84, passed away from our sight on June 8, 2017. Charles was born March 2, 1933, in Ross County, Ohio. His parents, Hugh Sank Pritchard and Jessie Alma (Davis) Pritchard were proud land owners and farmers in Huntington Township, Ross County. In 1972 he married for the second time to Vicki G. Dyer. His children include Charlmel Elizabeth (Carvel) Simmons, of Frankfort, OH; Charles Hugh Pritchard, of San Antonio, TX; Melvin Keith (Brenda) Pritchard, of Chillicothe; Mary Louise (Phillip) Doxie, of San Antonio; Margaret Michelle (David) Herlensky, of Bainbridge, OH; and many grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Anthony Pritchard, and by all of his siblings, Gladine Pritchard Cooper Kelly, Lawrence Albert Pritchard, Beatrice Pritchard Johnson, Violet Sarah Pritchard Smith, and Barbara Louise Pritchard Scott. Charles graduated from Huntington High School in 1952, and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFW Post 62. Charles was a noted member of the Huntington High School Hall of Fame, excelling in track and field; and he served on the Huntington Hall of Fame Committee. He had worked in construction, on his Ross County farm, for the Herlihy Moving and Storage Company, and for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. At heart, he was always a farmer. His church, Eden Baptist, in Pebble Township, Pike County, was the centerpiece of his life. A life-long member of Eden, he served the church in many ways, including Deacon, Treasurer, and Sunday School Superintendent. Charles enjoyed life in the country, singing, card playing, country music, religious music, travel, and his many friends and family. Charles had a positive outlook and was a gentle man. His cheerful good humor, positive regard, and helpfulness will be greatly missed. Memorial contributions can be made to Eden Baptist Church, 1947 US Rt 23, Waverly, OH, 45690. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. A home-going celebration will be held for all family and friends at 12:00pm on June 24, 2017 at Stillwater Events, 464 Debord Rd, Chillicothe.
