Chip was a graduate of Zane Trace High School, class of 1970 where he lettered in baseball and basketball. During his high school career, he was a member of the 1970 State Semi-Finalist basketball team. He went on to be drafted in the first round of the 1970 MLB Draft and spent five seasons in the minor league. In the off season, he attended Ohio University Athens and Ohio University Chillicothe. Following his sports career, he went on to work at Kenworth Truck Company and retired after 30 years of employment. In his free time, he enjoyed coaching his children's little league teams.
Chip was quick witted and a great story teller with an infectious laugh. Nothing brightened his days more than his granddaughters coming to visit. In his younger days, he was well known for his mushroom hunting ability, and generosity in sharing his harvest with family and friends. He was also a big Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He spent many Saturday afternoons surrounded by friends, cursing the team one minute and cheering them on the next.
Friends and family will gather in The Pit at Zane Trace one last time to celebrate Chip on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 from 4:00pm-8:00pm.
Friends are also welcome to bring photos of Chip to share on a memory board that will be present at the school. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Chip Maxwell Memorial Scholarship Fund being setup by Kingston National Bank.
