Cecil Clemmons

Cecil W. Clemmons, 95, died at 2:43am Friday, December 26, 2014, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, following a brief illness. He was born July 24, 1919, in Ross Co., to the late Frank and Alice (Nichols) Clemmons. On June 10, 1938, he married the former Dorothy A. Bowman, who survives. Also surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law Tommy (Barbara) Clemmons, of Waverly; Gary (Linda) Clemmons, of Chillicothe; David (Brenda) Clemmons, of Latham; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and his special canine friend "Buddy." He was predeceased by his grandson MSGT Brad Clemmons; 5 sisters; and 4 brothers. Cecil was a US Navy Veteran who served during WWII. He retired from the Mead Paper Co. in 1981 following 43 years of service. He trained harness horses for over 51 years and was a lifetime member of the Ohio Harness Horseman Assoc., and the US Trotting Assoc. Cecil was very saddened when the Ross Co. Fairgrounds closed the Speed Barns and training facilities, closing a major part of his life. He was a member of the AMVETS Post 4, The American Legion Post 62, and the VFW Post 108. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, December 31, at the Haller Funeral Home. Military graveside services, conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard, will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 5-8pm Tuesday at Haller Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to either the VA Volunteer Services, 17273 SR 104, Chillicothe, OH 45601; or the American Red Cross, Ross Co. Chapter, 181 N. Bridge St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
