Catherine Evanoff

Catherine Evanoff passed away 8:00 am, Thursday, March 31, 2011, at her home. She was born to William and Mary Frances Bowden Close June 7, 1922 in Atlanta, GA. She married Philip Evanoff October 9, 1954, who survives. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved step-mother, Florence Kuhns Close, and her grandparents. Surviving are her daughter Cathy (Jeffery) Forrest, grandchildren, Caitie and Jon Forrest, Lebanon, OH; her son, Philip (Dawn) Evanoff and grandsons Adam and Davis, Columbus, OH; brothers and sisters-in-law Neda (Robert) Yarnall and Agnes Coan, both of Philadelphia, PA; Peter (Jean) Evanoff, Lewes, DE, Joseph (Margaret) Evanoff, Kill Devil Hills, NC; Roberta Lindquist, Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces; nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. Cathy grew up in New York (Long Island) and was employed by the Mead Sales Company in New York for 12 years, coming to Chillicothe after her marriage in 1954. She received many awards for her volunteer work—Citizen of the Year by the Jaycees in 1988, Statehood Award by the Kiwanis Club in 1996, American Cancer Society and elected a lifetime member, Ross County Women's Hall of Fame, Diocesan Service Award, and the Liberty Bell Award. She was active at St. Mary Church and Bishop Flaget School and served 15 years on the Adena Hospital Board, including three as Chairperson. She helped form and served on the Volunteer Advisory Council at Adena. She was also a member of the Finance and Administration Committee at St. Mary Church and St. Margaret Cemetery. She also served on the Board of the Scioto Society. She was a member of the Adena Health Foundation Board and in 2004 she was voted St. Mary Church Woman of the Year. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 am Monday at St. Mary Church, Rev. Lawrence Hummer, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Margaret Cemetery. Friends may call 2-6 pm Sunday at the Haller Funeral Home, where a wake service will be held at 5:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Mary Church, 61 S. Paint St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
