Carolyn Ann (Jones) Lane, 83, of Dublin, and formerly of Chillicothe/Circleville, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Brookdale Muirfield, following an extended illness.
She was born August 20, 1938, in Bristol, Virginia, daughter of the late Kyle and Doris (Ball) Jones. On June 2, 1962, she married the love of her life, William C. Lane, who preceded her in death May 29, 2019.
Surviving is her beloved son, Michael B. Lane, of Columbus, as well as numerous cousins and extended family members. Many people thought of her as their mom or grandmother because of her concern for making sure everyone had what they needed. Later in life she became close to her Doctors, Nurses, and Aides as they made sure she had what she needed. In addition to her parents and husband Bill, she was preceded in death by her sister, Linda, and brother-in-law Bernard Nester, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Carol Lane, and several cousins, all of which were very dear to her.
Carolyn graduated from East Tennessee State University with a degree in Home Economics. She accepted a job and moved to Chillicothe to work for the Ohio Fuel Gas Company, and was known as a "Betty Newton", aka The Gas Girl, and would demonstrate cooking techniques on gas ranges for consumers, in classrooms, and at various fairs and shows in the area. It was at that time she met Bill and he jokingly got referred to as "Mr. Betty Newton" from time to time. As cooking with gas became more common, her career and passion shifted toward helping people find jobs where she worked and retired from the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, now known as the Department of Job and Family Services. She enjoyed many crafts, growing flowers, cooking, and sewing. She traveled extensively with family and friends. There are many pictures and stories to prove it!
She was a member of the First Christin Church on Water St. in Chillicothe, serving on various committees, and was part of the Christian Women's Organization. She also sang in the "Singing Christmas Tree" at Chillicothe Baptist Church. She served on the Board of Directors at the local Goodwill Industries and supported other charitable and civic groups over the years. Bill and Carolyn had a lifelong love of helping those in need, especially children. Their passion at Christmas time was buying warm coats and bicycles for children.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the Greenlawn Cemetery, in Frankfort, Ohio. Friends may join the family for calling hours on Tuesday evening June 21, from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the Haller Funeral Home on Western Ave. in Chillicothe. Casual attire preferred.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you consider donating a warm coat, a pair of shoes, or any useable item (new or used) to a child in need, or items that would help an adult in their search for employment, or any other charitable organization of your choice.
