Carl Delbert Ray, Jr., 77, of Chillicothe, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Adena Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born April 6, 1932, in Ross Co., to Carl D. & Ruth (Whiting) Ray. On February 26, 1955 he married the love of his life, Rubie Mae Cook, who survives. They spent 55 years together. Carl was a wonderful father to six children, Delmar Allen "Tom" Ray – Chillicothe; Rubie Mae "Sis" (Larry) Copper – Bainbridge; Rebecca Lynn "Becky" (Jim) Seymour – Stoutsville; Anita Marie (Rick) Fultz – Chillicothe; Carla Sue (Bobby) Bolt – Springfield, Illinois; and Carl Robert "Bobby" Ray – Waverly. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by 8 grandchildren – Larry "Bub" (fiancee Dana Jones) Copper, Jr.; Stacie (Donnie) Tilton; Jerry Copper; Josh Copper; Summer (Nathan) Darnell; Chelsea Fultz & Bobby Max Bolt III. 5 great-grandchildren – Renea & America Tilton; Makenzie Copper, Colby & Laney Darnell. Sister-in-law Betty Ray, cousins Bob & Willard Seymour; Raymond & Liz Cook & family. Family friends Debbie Oney, Connie Hartmus, Kenny & Barb Strausbaugh, Joyce & Jim Wilbanks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant brother Charles and brother Harry "Fred" Ray. At age 14, Carl won the Mead Corporation "Catch the Greased Pig" contest at its annual picnic. He was rewarded with an all expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. where he toured the national historical sites as well as the White House and met with George H. Mead. He went on to work for the Mead Corporation for 19 ½ years. Carl retired from the Chillicothe Correctional Institute (CCI) 1998, after 29 ½ years of service. He served as sergeant of security for 5 years at the Adena Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the Navy Petty Officer Club and PERI. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal. He was a Korean War Veteran. Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He will be sadly missed. Funeral services will be held at 10am, Friday, April 2, in the Haller Funeral Home. Military graveside committal will be held at the convenience of the family in Floral Hills Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, April 1 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the Haller Funeral Home.
