Carl Gunnoe, golfer extreme, master of electricity, and famous Forest Gump impersonator, age 69, of Chillicothe, passed away the morning of Thursday, January 13, 2011, surrounded by his loved ones and family, at his home, after a brave two year fight with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Hillsboro, OH, May 4, 1941 to Elta Gunnoe and the late Frank Gunnoe. Carl grew up in Beaver, OH where he mastered the hook shot for the Beaver High School basketball team and found a "hottie" from Latham, OH, Jeanette Shepherd. Mr. Gunnoe, veteran of the United States Army, was a 37 year employee of the South Central Power Company. Upon retiring, Carl began his tireless journey in search of the perfect golf swing. From the world class VA Golf Course to playing St. Andrews, Scotland's Old Course with his two sons, Carl culminated his journey with a 38 this year, stating "I knew when I shot that 38 the Lord would come take me." He was an avid supporter and past president of the Chillicothe Home Builders Association, a member of the American Legion, and the First Wesleyan Church. Carl's love of friends, family and a little orneriness touched all that knew him. Incredible son, brother, dad, uncle and amazing papaw, Carl is survived by his mother; wife, Jeanette; their three children, Pam (Matt) Smith and Eric (Tracy) Gunnoe, both of Chillicothe and Brian (Andrea) Gunnoe, of Dublin; 10 grandchildren, Chaz, Chance, Caleb and Sage Smith, Elayna, Isaac, Drew, Noah, Carter, and Reid Gunnoe; a brother, Jeff (Kelley) Litzinger; and two sisters, Arlene (Jerry) Spears and Linda (Dick) Holt. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Frankie C. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday at the First Wesleyan Church, Rev. B. J. Dailey officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Gardner Cemetery, Pike Co. Friends may call 4-8 pm Sunday at the First Wesleyan Church.
