Carl E. Bethel, 82, of Chillicothe, passed away after an extended illness at 11:55pm August 29, 2006, surrounded by his family. He was born April 10, 1924, in Chillicothe to Clarence E. and Maud A. Hurles Bethel. On December 24, 1941, he married the former Martha F. Coon, who survives. Also surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law Carla Sue (Richard) Hughes and Rebecca J. (Joseph) Cyrus, all of Chillicothe; grandchildren Debra (Glen) Pierce, Lisa (Patrick) Bosstic, Randall (Candy) Hughes, Joseph "Josh" Cyrus and fiancée Kelly Patterson, all of Chillicothe; great-grandchildren Jami Wilson, Angie Dozer, Mikki Bosstic, Whitney, Randa, and Jacob Hughes, and Eddie Wilson; step-great-grandchildren Rekia (Tom) Tyler and Glen L. Pierce; great-great-grandchildren Aaron and Ethan Wilson; step-great-great-grandchildren Hunter Pierce and Kadance Tyler; brothers and sisters-in-law Mary and Joseph Malone, Betty and Pearl Dennewitz, Bessie Coon, Harriet and Arnold Musick, Frank and Jean Coon, Barbara Coon, and Robert L. Parker; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Mary Streevey. He was predeceased by his parents, daughter and son-in-law Melanee K. (Richard) Deming, grandson Richard E. Hughes, Jr.; mother and father-in-law Louisa and Orlando Coon; brother and his wife Wayne (Mary) Bethel, sister Virginia L. Parker; sister and her husband Donna (Harold) Rearley; an infant brother Lloyd C. Bethel, sister and brothers-in-law Carolyn and Forrest Carroll and Ernest Coon; and his buddy, "Traveler." Mr. Bethel retired from the Mead Corporation in 1986 after 43 years of service. He was an Army Air Corp Veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Mead Local 731. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, September 2, 2006, at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Hartley officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. veteran Honor Guard will follow in Springbank Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8pm Friday at Haller Funeral Home.
