Bruce Owen Martin

Bruce Martin, 71, of Chillicothe, Ohio, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Born on May 29, 1955, in Rockford, Illinois, Bruce was the son of the late Malcolm and Ina (Shaffer) Martin. On March 14, 1975, he married the love of his life, Cindy Martin, with whom he shared more than 50 years of marriage.

Bruce is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Cindy; his children, Terry (Shauna Nikole) Martin, Sean (Gina) Martin, and Lily Martin; his cherished grandchildren, Cole, Jordan, and Addison Martin; his brother, Greg (Ione) Martin; his sister, Jennie (Doug) Oosterhouse; as well as many extended family members, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

In 1977, Bruce graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree and was a proud member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to serving others and strengthening his community.

A faithful member of Chillicothe Baptist Church, Bruce was deeply involved in church life. He participated in the men’s “Ironmen” group, taught the adult Sunday School class, and faithfully helped maintain the church grounds. Before relocating to Chillicothe, he served as a leader with Junior Achievement and the Boys & Girls Club in Rockford, Illinois, and led the men’s fellowship at Second Congregational Church.

Bruce found his greatest joy in his faith, his family, and serving others. Whether teaching Sunday School, lending a helping hand at church, making children smile as Grimace, or simply spending time with those he loved, he lived a life marked by kindness, humility, and generosity. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and unwavering love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy of faith, compassion, and service will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
