Betty Glee "B.G." Schnell Ellis, of Kingston, passed peacefully Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Adena Regional Medical Center ICU following a brief illness. She was 90 years old. B.G. was born March 15, 1921, in her Grandmother Wheeler's farm house near Buckland, OH, to her parents Daisy (Wheeler) and Dewey Schnell. She was the first of five children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lt. Tom L. Ellis, USMC, retired, and her youngest sister, Floa Schnell Ripley. B.G. grew up in Wapakoneta, OH and received her degree in education from Miami University in Oxford, OH. At Miami, she was a member of Magrigal Girls Choir and initiated into Kappa Delta Pi and was a member of the Columbus Ohio Chapter for many years. She was a member of Mensa International. After marrying Tom in Paris Island, SC, they moved to Cleveland, OH where Tom was with General Motors, then to Lansing, MI, and later Memphis, TN. In 1980, Tom and B.G. moved to Kingston, OH, where they renovated the 1825 home that Tom's Dad, Dane, had relocated in order for the new gymnasium of the Kingston High School to be built in the late Forties. B.G. taught school in several states and was a longtime member of the Kingston Methodist Church and sang in the choir. Later she joined the Mt. Pleasant Kingston Presbyterian Church. She volunteered at Adena Hospital for 22 years and served on Administrative Council. She was a member of Christian Women and the Red Hatters. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her morning walks, enjoyed knitting and needlepoint. B.G. was a world traveler have completed 7 cruises and traveled to Europe, Asia, Canada, Mexico and all fifty states. B.G. is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sheree Ellis (Lowry) Robinson, of Osceola, Ark; her son and daughter-in-law Tim (Marcia) Ellis, of Kingston; four grandchildren: Whitnie Robinson (Brad) Lushbaugh, of Fayetteville, Ark.; Courtnie Robinson (Mark) Peacock, of Russellville, Ark.; Aubrey Ellis-Strausbaugh, of Chillicothe; and Wesley Dane Ellis, of Kingston; step-grandson Jacob William Holmes, of Chillicothe; seven great-grandchildren: William Quinn and Elizabeth Lindsay Lushbaugh; Lowry Cole and Max Henry Peacock; Ava Elizabeth Christopher, Brevin Lloyd Dane and Macy Lynn Strausbaugh; two brothers and sisters-in-law Dr. Gene (Janet) Schnell, of Illinois; and Paul (Jeanie) Schnell, of Wapakoneta, OH; a sister Mickey Schnell Urich, of Arizona; a brother-in-law Col. John H. Ellis, USMC, retired, San Diego, CA; many nieces and nephews; and her special friend of 65 years Norma Kipp Avendano, of San Diego, CA. B.G. loved her family very much. She enjoyed attending Aubrey's and Wesley's sporting events and loved being with her families in Arkansas. B.G. touched many people's lives. She was a very focused, organized, punctual, sincere, caring, outgoing, and loving lady. The family would like to thank the staff of the following facilities: Westmoreland Place; Liberty Village; Chillicothe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, especially Marcia Ellis and therapists; and the doctors and nurses at Adena ICU. In keeping with her wishes, B.G. will be cremated under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. A memorial service in her honor will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of the donor's choice.
