Betty Wingo

Betty Ann Wingo, 88, of Chillicothe, passed away on Tuesday morning, September 19, 2017, at Westmoreland Place, following an extended illness. She was born on February 5, 1929, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to the late John and Lenora (Harris) Powell. She married John Wingo, who preceded her in death on March 21, 2002. Surviving are her children, Kathy Wingo, Marilyn Lowe, both of Chillicothe; and Otis (Flora) Wingo, of Columbus; her grandchildren, Traci (Chad) Neal, Tammi (Donte) Cameron, Keri (Derek) Dewitt, Kelly Howard, and Otis "OJ" Wingo; 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; special cousins, Ric McConnell and Carol Jackson; a son-in-law, Perry Howard; a sister-in-law, Anna Powell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two daughters, Karen Elizabeth Howard, and Sharon Powell, as well as her siblings, Sally Hitchens, Dick Powell, and Edwin Powell. Betty was a lifetime member of the Zion Baptist Church in Chillicothe, where she was a part of their missionaries and also Mother of the Church. She enjoyed making dinner on Sundays and delivering them around the neighborhood.  She also loved to go shopping, cleaning, and especially doing laundry. During her stay at Westmoreland Place, she especially loved her frequent visits with her grandsons Tristan and Jayson. The family would like to give special thanks to Westmoreland Place, National Church Residences Hospice, and Heartland Hospice for all of the love and care given to Betty. A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the Zion Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. J. Troy Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 10:00am on Saturday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Zion Baptist Church, 84 S. Clinton Rd, Chillicothe, OH, 45601.
