Betty Sampson

Betty R. Sampson, 88, of Chillicothe, OH, formerly of Warren, PA, died unexpectedly Friday, January 4, 2008, in her home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, January 12, at the First Christian Church, 268 W. Water St., Chillicothe, with Rev. Larry Miracle officiating. Burial will follow at the convenience of the family in Scandia Cemetery, Scandia, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chillicothe Ross Public Library, P.O. Box 185, Chillicothe, OH, 45601. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. Betty was born December 27, 1919, in Wrights, PA, to the late Orlo E. and Ruth Shepard Robbins. On July 5, 1941, she married Norman H. Sampson, who preceded her in death on February 25, 1999. Surviving are their sons and daughters-in-law Dennis (Kathy) Sampson, of Pewaukee, WI; Dr. David (Virginia) Sampson, of Chillicothe; Douglas (Sandy) Sampson, of Wirtz, VA; their daughter Dr. Ruth Sampson, San Diego, CA; grandchildren Eric (Joyce) Sampson; Jessica Sampson; Laurel Sampson; Amy (James) Aspenwall; Heather (Jeremy) Bryant; Brian (Krissy) Runyan; Brent Runyan; Alyssa Runyan; Christopher (Laura) Sampson; Michael Sampson; great-grandchildren Sophia Sampson; Grant and Austin Aspenwall; Carter Bryant; and Sampson and Cooper Runyan; a sister Bernice Polk; and a brother Robert Robbins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by infant twin daughters; and a sister Erla Mae Herzog. Betty was a school teacher and later became librarian in the Warren School System, Warren Co., PA, after obtaining her Master's Degree in Library Science from Syracuse University. She was a member of D.A.R. and the American Association of University Women. Betty was also a lifetime breeder of Basenji Dogs. She belonged to the Conewango Valley Kennel Club and the American Kennel Club. Since moving to Chillicothe, she attended the First Christian Church and volunteered at the Pump House Art Gallery. Betty was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
