Betty Jane Dennewitz, 96, of Pickerington, formerly of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully late Monday evening, May 11, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born May 24, 1929, in Wooster, Ohio, daughter of the late Orlando and Eliza (Detty) Coon. She married her beloved husband, Pearl H. Dennewitz, in 1947, and together they shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2008.

Surviving are their children, Dean (Rachel) Dennewitz, and Jeanne (Jeff) Wiseman; beloved grandchildren, Wendy (Francene Perna) Roe, Dustin (Christine) Dennewitz, Chad Wiseman, and Eli (Becky) Dennewitz; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Roe, Sammy Dennewitz, Tristan Dennewitz, Grace Dennewitz, and Taran Dennewitz; two sisters, Martha Bethel, and Barbara “Bobbie” Coon; her brother, Frank Coon (Jean), as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and close friends. In addition to her parents and husband Pearl, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Ernie Coon, Carolyn “Callie” Carroll, Harriette “Hattie” Musick, and Mary Malone.

Betty attended Huntington High School. She worked at JC Penney’s retail store in the business office for many years, before moving on to become a care giver for others. She truly enjoyed her time as a care giver, taking great pride in her ability to help others during some of their most difficult days.

Betty played the violin in school, and she loved music. She was a talented seamstress. She especially loved traveling to visit family. She also enjoyed going on cruises with family before her health began to fail. But mostly she loved meeting with family at restaurants, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time with her large, extended family was of the utmost importance and she cherished every opportunity she had with them.

A memorial service at Haller Funeral Home to celebrate Betty’s extraordinary life is being planned by the family and will be announced in the coming weeks.
