Betty Downing

Betty J. Downing, 76, of Chillicothe, formerly of Hilliard, died 8:45 am, Monday, April 28, 2008, in the Adena Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday in the Haller Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Burial will follow in Twin Township Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 pm Thursday at Haller's. She was born May 7, 1931 in Lawrence Co., KY to Theodore and Lora Young Hammond. On September 4, 1948 she was united in marriage to Glenn F. Downing, who preceded her in death on December 8, 1988. Betty is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Larry E. and Mary Jane Downing, of Chillicothe, Ronald K and Carol Downing, of Hilliard, and Phillip D. Downing; grandchildren, Patrick (Jen) Downing, Jeffrey Downing, Anna Marie Downing, Ryan Downing, and Christopher Downing; a sister Beth Watkins, of Swanton, OH; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. She was co-proprietor, with husband Glenn, of the Buckeye Bowling Lanes, Chillicothe and had retired from Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association. Betty was a loving mom and grandma and will be sadly missed.
