On May 26th, 2014 at 5:45 AM, Betty Jean Watkins Burnem of Bainbridge, Ohio, departed this world to join her Savior in His eternal kingdom. She was 80 years young. Born July 3rd, 1933 to Charles and Ida Bond Watkins, Betty was the second youngest of nine children. An accomplished seamstress, cook, and artist, she was known throughout her family and community for her talents and creations. When she resided in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, she was very active as a member of the Point Pleasant Church of the Nazarene, serving as a Sunday school teacher, and as a member of both the church choir and Hat Committee. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, John, Frank, Fred, and James Watkins; four sisters, Mary White, Nancy Ross, Goldie Pollock, and Flossie Schiller; two sons, Charles Henry and Howard Steven; and a grandson, Jeremy John. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, James Edward Burnem, Sr, and their five children, James Edward, Jr (Scheherazade) of Palmer, Alaska, David Allen of Talkeetna, Alaska, Melinda Lee (Royce) McGhee of Bainbridge, Ohio, Larry Michael of Bainbridge, Ohio, and Gwendolyn Kay (John) McCoy of Gallipolis Ferry, WV. She leaves behind twenty grandchildren, Shayne, Brian, Stevie, Sacha, Josh, Jennifer, Traci, Sheridan, Shellie, Jodi, Stephanie, Ashley, Mikey, Natasha, Jimmy, Kaysi, Mindy, Kayla, Emily, and Molly; thirty-three great-grandchildren, and innumerable nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held Friday, May 30th, 2014 from 5-8pm at Haller Funeral Home in Chillicothe, Ohio. A service in honor of Betty's life will be held Saturday, May 31st at 1:00 PM at the Denver Chapel Christian Union Church in Waverly, Ohio. The family wishes to thank the nurses of Community Care Hospice for taking such wonderful care of Betty during her final days.
