Beryl Johnson

September 19, 1926 — March 27, 2021

Beryl E. Johnson left this world peacefully on Saturday, March 27th, surrounded by her close family and friends.

Beryl was born in Sussex, England on September 19, 1926. She entered the Women's Junior Air Corp in 1944. From 1945-1947, Beryl served in Egypt and Palestine in the Expeditionary Force. After serving her country, she furthered her education by attending Brighton General Hospital in 1952 and received her RN degree. The following year she received her midwifery degree at North MIddlesex Hospital in London, England.

With great adventure in her heart, she set her sights on the United States and the opportunities and travels that awaited her. Beryl traveled alone to the United States entering the port of Ellis Island, New York where she would begin an extraordinary life full of travel, adventure, and service to others.

She started her nursing career in Ontario, Canada. After several years in Canada, she ventured to California, where she not only worked in a hospital, but was a highly sought after private nurse. Feeling the need to move on, she traveled south to Miami, Florida where she eventually met the love of her life, Marius Richard "Dick" Johnson. Richard and Beryl were married on February 19, 1967, in Miami, Florida.

For the next thirty-two years, Beryl and Richard never left each other's side. They were avid sailors, who built their own sailboat, members of the Rocky Fork Sailing Club, golf enthusiast, and world travelers.

Beryl is preceded in death by her husband, Marius Richard Johnson, a sister, Susan Baril, and two brothers, Stan and Max Edney. After the passing of her dear Richard, Beryl spent her time between Chillicothe, Ohio and St. Petersburg, Florida. She spent her summers for the last 25 years volunteering at the VA Medical Center Golf Course. Beryl never met a stranger, was loved by many, and left this world a better place.

A Graveside service will be held at Grandview Cemetery, in Chillicothe, Ohio at high noon, on March 30, 2021.
