Bertia Mae Greenwood, 76, went to be with the Lord at 9:05am Friday, September 10, 2010, in Westmoreland Place Nursing Home, Chillicothe, OH. A native of Portsmouth, she was born May 2, 1934, to the late John and Lillian Henderson Paul. Surviving are her 6 children: daughters and sons-in-law Rhonda (Bob) Thoroman, of Palmer, Alaska; Sue (Russ) Wilson, of Friendship, OH; Peggy (Paul) Adams, of Chillicothe; daughter Christy Nichols, Chillicothe; sons and daughter-in-law David (Debbie) Greenwood, Altoona, PA; and Kevin Greenwood, Chillicothe; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters Kathleen Thompson and Betty Holt, both of Portsmouth; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband of 32 years, Orville Greenwood; two sisters Dorothy Williams and Mary Jane Paul; and five brothers John "Bud," Don, Harry, Charles and Jack Paul. Bertie was a member of First Christian Church where she served in the children's nursery for years. She retired from Portsmouth City Schools where she served as a cook for 30 years. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, September 14, at the First Christian Church, 843 Third St., Portsmouth, OH with her son, Rev. David Greenwood officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of HALLER FUNERAL HOME, Chillicothe.
