Bernard Rutherford

March 11, 1941 — October 29, 2023

Bernard S. Rutherford, 82 of Frankfort, OH, went to be with his Lord at 8:40 AM Sunday, October 29th, at The Ohio State Medical Center, in Columbus, OH, following an extended illness.

He was born March 11, 1941, in Jonesville, VA to Bernard and Rosa (Morris) Rutherford. On April 21, 1979, he married the love of his life Beverly (Acton) Rutherford, who survives.

Bernie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

He is survived by his wife Beverly Rutherford; sons Lee Rutherford (Misty Howsmon), Rod Grabill, and Ken (Julie) Grabill; Grandchildren Maddie Grabill (Levi Lane), and Olivia Grabill; sister Lafern (Charles) Bailey; a brother-in-law, Mike (Dianna) Mace; a sister-in-law Valarie Acton; many nieces and nephews, who all have an Uncle Bernie story or two; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter Angela D. Rutherford; Father Bernard C. Rutherford; Mother Rosa Rutherford; father-in-law, George Acton; mother-in-law Ellen (Roll) Fisher; brothers Newman (Gloria) Rutherford, Cecil (Nora) Rutherford; sisters Ruby (Stafford) Jayne, Edith (Vinley) Parsons, Bernice (Leroy) Mills and brother-in-law Keith Acton.

Bernie devoted his life to giving his family the best life possible. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening; picked the guitar, mandolin, dobro, and banjo. Bernie had many careers over his life and loved to tell stories about working at Sears Dayton automotive shop, being a milk man, butcher at the Frankfort IGA, owning a sheet metal shop, deer butcher, commercial roofing, general contracting, and Village Administrator of Frankfort. Bernie was a very giving man and said many times, "When you think things are bad for you, just look around, there is always someone worse off, that you can help." He volunteered countless hours to Concord Township Fire & EMS, in Frankfort, driving a squad for many years. Anyone who knew Bernie knew his handshake and his word were worth more than any document. His legacy of strength, work ethic and love will live on through his family and the people he touched throughout his life. Bernie was also an active member of the Frankfort Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon.

A celebration of Bernie's life will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 1 PM at the Frankfort Church of Christ, 3636 Co. Rd. 550, Frankfort, OH 45628, with food and refreshments afterwards.
