Barbara Norman

July 11, 1948 — November 13, 2016

Barbara Hester Norman,68, of Chillicothe, passed away on Sunday November 13,2016 at Adena Regional Hospital following extended illnesses. She was born July 11, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio to the late William and Elizabeth Stanhope. She married Daniel Norman on July 6, 1974 and enjoyed 42 wonderful years of marriage. Also surviving are children Gwendolyn (Dante) Norman-Brown, Erin (Nick) Idczak-Whittaker and grandchildren Dante Jr., Devante, Dominique, Darren, Danielle, and Nash. Barbara's surviving brothers and sisters are Michael (Lydia) Stanhope, Laura (Doug) Mundell, Bill Henry (Kristen Keirsey) Stanhope, James Stanhope. Barbara graduated from Defiance College and taught 35 years in Chillicothe City Schools. 25 years as a 3rd grade teacher at Worthington Elementary and 10 years as reading specialist at Mt. Logan Elementary. She was active in her teaching sorority, Junior Civic League, Chillicothe Civic Theater, Ross County Humane Society where she served as president, served as a counselor for Elizabeth's Hope and was a Sunday School teacher for Grace Fellowship Church. We remember her for passionate love of her grandchildren and simple joys of painting rocks with them as well as reading books. She also loved her dogs and loved to teach. We cannot forget her joy of shopping-even if just to "feel the goods." Finally she loved our many family vacations at Holden Beach, North Carolina. Barb and Dan loved to travel on cruises and on exotic beach trips to the Caribbean. A special thanks to Heartland of Chillicothe staff for their loving care and compassion they all had for Barb. Barb had an undefeated record in victories over her many illnesses. This last victory was the sweetest one as it took her to the loving arms of her lord and savior in heaven. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Grace Fellowship Church, Rev. Brent Rolsten officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call 4-7 pm Friday at the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory. Her specific request was that no flowers or other items be sent so that greater needs could be met. Donations in her honor may be sent to Grace Fellowship Church, Children's Ministry, PO Box 1029 Station A., or Elizabeth's Hope, 311 West Water St., or Ross County Humane Society 2308A Lick Run Rd. Chillicothe, OH 45601. Her online memorial register is available at www.HallerFuneralHome.com.
