Barbara Lytle

Barbara Elberfeld Lytle, 96, died peacefully December 25, 2009 at Traditions of Chillicothe. Barbara was born February 14, 1913 in Pomeroy, OH to the late Jacob and Katherine Mees Elberfeld. One of ten children, Barbara had many happy childhood memories of riding horses and swimming in the creek at the family farm in Tuppers Plains, OH and playing cello in a trio with friends. Barbara worked in her father's store, "Elberfelds" and graduated from Goucher College in Maryland. Upon her return to Pomeroy she met Robert Powers Lytle and they were married December 27, 1938. Barbara and Bob moved to Chillicothe and Bob worked in the Elberfeld family store which was opened by Barbara's brother Martin Elberfeld. Barbara and Bob raised their two children, Janice and Jeffrey in their home on Western Avenue. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Barbara was preceded in death by her son R. Jeffrey Lytle in 1985; her husband Robert P. Lytle in 2000 and her daughter Janice L. Mahoney in 2002. Surviving are grandchildren, Robert Lytle, of CA, Katherine Taylor and Michael Mahoney, of PA, David Mahoney, of TX; and five great-grandchildren. Barbara also has numerous nieces and nephews, including niece Susan (Bob) Centers, of Chillicothe. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday at the Haller Funeral Home, Rev. Gareth D. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at Haller's.
