Asunta Harrison

Asunta "Snookie" Harrison, age 99 years, 9 months and 18 days, died on September 13, 2023.

The daughter of Garnet Smoot (deceased), Snookie was born in Lawrence County, Ohio on November 26, 1923. She graduated from Elizabeth Rural, Class of 1941, attended Ohio University and the Institute of Genealogy at Samford University in 1982. She was employed by the Ohio Historical Society for six seasons in Chillicothe.

In 1942 she married Charles Harrison, who predeceased her, and they shared 68 years of marriage. The couple made their home in Athens and Chillicothe Ohio, Portland, Oregon, and Alabama, but felt most at home in the hills of Lawrence County.

Throughout her life Snook enjoyed oil painting, local theater, antiques, decorating, history, and travel. Always an avid reader, she made it known from her hospital bed that the library books in her apartment must be returned promptly.

She was a member of the Eastern Star for many years.  Her passion was genealogy and she traveled around the country researching family ancestry. In 1985 she compiled and published a 196-page volume of the history of the Harrison family. Researching ancestry for friends became her purpose and lamented that she had "more work to do."

She is survived by her sons Charles (Nancy) Harrison and Michael (Jo Miller) Harrison; her grandchildren Michael Jay Harrison and C. Patrick Harrison, Jessica (Pat) Petrucci and C. J. Harrison; and great- grandchildren Colette and Eli Petrucci. Sister Glenna (Connie) and brother-in-law Tom Boothe predeceased her.

The family extends grateful appreciation to Dr. Mowry-Fisk, the Palliative Care and Hospice teams at Adena Hospital, the administration and staff of Traditions and Snook's many friends at the Glade where she lived in contented comfort in her final months.

In accordance with her wishes she will be cremated and interred in Grandview Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours or funeral.

The family asks that all who knew her have a personal Celebration of Life on November 26, 2023, her 100th birthday.
