Artie Brown

Artie Marie Brown, 108, of Gahanna, Ohio, formerly of Chillicothe, transitioned at 5:00am November 23, 2018, at Continuing Healthcare of Gahanna.   She was born in Jackson County, OH, to the late Charles H. and Josephine (Austin) Valentine. On May 14, 1928, she married Oscar A. Brown, who preceded her in death October 14, 1969.   She is survived by her son Doyle E. Brown, of Las Vegas, NV; daughters Beatrice McDaniel, of Lincoln, NE, Linda (Larry) Griffin and Peggy (George) Steele, all of Columbus; over 252 combined grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons Oscar, Russell, Leroy, William, and Edwin; a daughter-in-law Elizabeth; a son-in-law Charles; brothers David, Leonard, Benjamin and Henry Valentine, Bob Doles; and sisters Lula White, Mattie Valentine, and Mable Jones. Mrs. Brown worked in Dietary as the Head Cook at the Chillicothe Hospital, and in New York as the Personal Assistant to famed radio commentator, the late H.V. Kaltenborn. An avid advocate for her neighborhood, she dutifully attended every Monday night Chillicothe City Council meeting to assure that the needs in the neighborhood were met. She has been a member of Zion Baptist Church since the age of 13 years old, and a member of Greater Christ Temple since moving to Gahanna, Ohio in 2009.
