Anna Young

Anna Roberta (Fletcher) Young, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 93. Anna, known to most as Roberta, was born on September 15, 1931 in Danville, Illinois to the late Artie Fletcher and Liliuokalani (Lilly) Fletcher.
She graduated from Danville High School in 1948. She married Will Otrus/Willie Young on March 23, 1951. Roberta cleaned houses and worked as an elevator operator at the Temple Building until she and Willie's first child, Sharon Sue, was born in 1953. She gave birth to their second child, Raymond Alan, in 1956. She was an active Parent teacher Association/PTA member at her children's schools. Roberta did not return to work for six years until her youngest child, Angela Roberta (born in 1958) went to first grade. Roberta was a salesclerk at Goldblatt's Department Store for 12 years until it closed. She then became a full-time homemaker after its closure. Roberta learned how to sew and quilt at an early age. She took sewing classes at Danville Area Community College to perfect her sewing skills. She made clothing and altered clothing for others. She also made quilts for family, friends, and even customers. Roberta enjoyed baking, making homemade ice cream, and gardening. She was a member of Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Danville, IL, where she served in the Flower Guild Ministry for several years. She and her husband Willie hosted church gatherings at their home in Danville, IL in the summer. Roberta and Willie moved to Chillicothe in 2010. It was here she attended Quinn Chapel AME Church until her health prevented her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Young; her granddaughter, Cynthia Rae Young; her brothers: William Fletcher, Charles Fletcher, and Edward Fletcher; her sisters: Lorraine Heart and Lillian Joyce McDougal; and her cousin, Elizabeth Weaver, who was like a sister. She is survived by her children, Sharon (Sue) Davis, Raymond Young, and Angela Young Robinson; grandchildren, Dionne Webster, Jason Young, Nathan Davis, Candace Young, and Jeremy Young; along with many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her legacy will be cherished by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the Haller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation Saturday evening from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the funeral home.
