Alma Lucille Harris, 85, of Chillicothe, passed away early Saturday morning, January 18, 2025 at her home, following an extended illness.
She was born July 8, 1939, in Chillicothe, daughter of the late William, Sr and Helen (Fairrow) Bayless. She married Paul Edward Harris, and together they shared over 22 years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, surviving are her devoted children, Vicki (Robert) Nix, and Kelley Beverly; stepchildren, Robin Lynn Greene, Paul (Lynn) Harris, Jr., Joy (Lloyd) Brewton, Jerry (Laura) Harris, and Lee Ann Rutherford; numerous beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Also surviving are her brother William Edward (Charlene) Bayless, Jr., and a close friend, Sonya Powell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jon H. Beverly, Jr, her sister, Aldean Bayless, and her brother, Virgil Bayless.
Alma loved being a middle school teacher for many years, devoting her life to helping young people grow in their educational journey. After retiring she enjoyed "copiloting" as passenger in the truck with her husband, Paul. She was associated with the Original Glorious Church in Chillicothe and enjoyed listening to Bishop Melvin Maughmer preach. In her free time, she loved spending time going bowling or roller skating and bingo.
Alma sincerely loved everyone she met, there were no strangers in her world. She greeted each and every person with a genuine heartfelt smile and hug.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe, with Rev. Moses Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a visitation from 11:00am until the time of the service at the church.
