Allen Turley

July 22, 1946 — June 3, 2022

On the 3rd of June, Alan Frank Turley, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away at the age of 75 in Chillicothe, Ohio. Alan was born in Cumberland, Maryland on July 22, 1946 to Elizabeth and Frank Turley. He was the oldest of three boys. When he was thirteen his family moved to Fort Ashby, West Virginia.  Soon after their move to Fort Ashby he met the love of his life, Dwella ("Tip") McDonald. They were friends for several years until Tip turned 16 and they began to date. Alan and Tip married at the ages of 21 and 20, respectively, and would have been married 55 years this June 25th. He was proud to tell everyone she is the only woman he has ever dated. They have two children: Mark Turley (Heather) of New Creek, WV & Tonya Benson (Robert) of Roanoke, Va. Alan also has four wonderful grandchildren Rebecca and Andrew Benson, Elena & Izabella Turley. Alan is also survived by his two amazing brothers Kevin (Darinda) of Ridgley, WV and Scott (Melissa) of Fort Ashby, WV along with nephew Nathan and nieces Shay and Morgan, several cousins, including special one Regina Wasson whom he looked at like a sister, and multiple sisters & brothers-in-law. Alan was an MP in the Army Reserves in his younger years and a member of East Gate Lodge #216, A.F.  & A.M. for over 50 years. Alan started a 41year career with PPG Industries in Cumberland, Maryland, then he was transferred to Greensburg, Pa and on to Chillicothe, OH. He and Tip remained in Chillicothe after he retired from PPG. While in Ohio he rediscovered his love for motorcycles. Over the years he enjoyed many motorcycle adventures out West and to Alaska with his traveling buddy and brother-in-law Larry Neff. The one trip that Alan talked about most was his trip to the Artic Circle. He would say: "You never know how unimportant you are until you stand up there in the Artic Circle. A bear could come and wipe you off the earth and no one would know it." He enjoyed wood working, hunting, traveling, reading, westerns and he had an amazing memory for history. His family would like to thank all of their friends and extended family for their love and support over the time of his illness. He was determined to get as much out of his wonderful life as he possibly could. Alan was an amazing husband, father, brother and friend, but most of all he was a fighter. When you think of him remember him with a smile on your face, because he would show you his amazing smile if he was in front of you. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Fort Ashby, WV on Friday, June 17 th . from 6-8 PM. East Gate Lodge #216, A.F. & A.M. will conduct a memorial service on Friday at 7:45 PM at the funeral home. His life will be celebrated at the  Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 18 th .  at 11 AM, with Pastor Scott Ingleton, officiating. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.  Local services were provided by the Haller Funeral Home & Crematory
