On Tuesday, February 10, Alfred Vernon Keppler went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He died at the VA Hospital in Chillicothe, OH, after an extended illness. He was born 82 years ago on September 8, 1926, in Pike County, OH, to the late Elmer and Clara (Kuntzman) Keppler. On July 11, 1951, he married Velma Irene Smith who preceded him in death on November 9, 2006. Surviving are a daughter, Millie Hutchison of Chillicothe; sons Ralph Keppler of Westerville and Mark (Lorie) Keppler of Green Camp, OH. His grandchildren are Jason (Kelli) Hutchison, Joe (Amy) Hutchison, Kristen Keppler, and Matthew Keppler; step-grandchildren are Jenatha and Maranda Craven, Brock Patterson, and Brandon Marshall; great-granddaughters, Carli Hope Hutchison and Elliana Rose Hutchison; great-grandson Carter Ricky Hutchison; a step-great-granddaughter Adrianna Sexton. Also surviving are a brother, Raymond (Pat) Keppler of Chillicothe; sister, Anna Keppler of Piketon; sisters-in-law Geneva Keppler of Beaver and Edna Smith of Shenandoah, VA; brother-in-law Jennings (Delores) Smith of Elkton, VA; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Howard Keppler and son-in-law Rick Hutchison. He retired from the Chillicothe VA Hospital in 1978 where he worked in the Dietetic Service for 25 years. He was raised on a farm in Beaver, OH, which he returned to often until his health would no longer allow it. He liked to talk about farming and especially about tractors. He was an avid recycler, who thought nothing should be wasted. He was member of Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church, but in recent years, attended services held at the Chillicothe VA Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, February 13, at Tyler Memorial United Methodist Church, 260 Mill St., with Pastors B. Jay Dailey and Jim Groves officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veteran Honor Guard will follow in Londonderry Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Haller Funeral Home. His favorite Bible verse was "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9)
