Albert Traylor

October 1, 1924 — March 19, 2012

In the early morning hours of March 19, 2012, the angels came to our home and took with them to heaven our dearest loved one, Albert Brady Traylor. He was born on October 1, 1924, in Greenup Co., KY, to William and Ethel (Scott) Traylor. On January 11, 1948, he married the former Evelyn Miller, who survives. They celebrated 64 wonderful years together. He was the father of Janet E., Elaine and John W. Traylor; grandfather of Bill Traylor; great-grandfather of Ashley and Emilie Grace Traylor, all of Chillicothe; and brother of William H. (Patricia) Traylor, of Jackson, OH. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Kenneth T. Traylor; his sister Inez Traylor and his in-laws John E. and Ethel (Neff) Miller. Albert joined the US Navy in 1943 and was assigned to the U.S.S. New Jersey (BB62) when it was first commissioned, making him a "plank owner." While onboard, he was a gunner's mate in the #2 turret. In 1945, he was injured at the Battle of Okinawa, which earned him a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. He retired from Mead Paper Co. in 1981 as an electrician, but spent most of his time as a bleach plant operator. He loved to travel and as a family, we enjoyed annual vacations, especially to Holden Beach, NC. There wasn't anything he couldn't get to grow in his garden. Albert was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds. If something was broken, he always found a way to fix it; whether it was around the house or in our lives. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, March 24 at the Haller Funeral Home with Chaplain Bob Rose officiating. Friends may call from 5-8pm Friday at Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Adena Hospice, 111 W. Water St., Chillicothe, OH 45601.
