Adelphia LaVerne Ginther, 88, of Chillicothe, died at 5:45pm Friday, February 12, 2010, in Adena Regional Medical Center. She was born September 27, 1921, in Clarksburg, OH, to the late Herbert and Emma Ellen Smith Shaw. On December 9, 1941, she married Harry H. Ginther, Jr., who preceded her in death on September 18, 1995. LaVerne is survived by her daughters Billie Anne (Richard) Goodin, New Lexington, OH; Kathlene Hollis, Austin, TX; Peggy E. Sheets, Chillicothe; and Gisele "Gigi" Damron, Chillicothe; a daughter-in-law Linda Ginther, Bainbridge, OH; 26 grandchildren; over 20 great-grandchildren; a sister Maxine Jane (Robert James) Derexson; a special friend June Good; and her second family at Bob Evans restaurant. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by an infant son Garry David Ginther; son Dennis Matthew Ginther; and a sister Betty Ann Borland. LaVerne, affectionately known as "Granny," had volunteered her time with the American Red Cross and the Ross Co. Humane Society. Young at heart, she loved flower gardening, her family and going to hear karaoke. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, February 18, at the Haller Funeral Home with Rev. Phillip C. Rutherford officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm at Haller Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Twp. Volunteer Fire & Rescue, 5778 Egypt Pike, Chillicothe; or Chillicothe Professional Firefighters Assoc., 54 E. Water St., Chillicothe.
