Obadiah Harris, Jr.

Obadiah Harris, Jr., 85, of Chillicothe, went to be with the Lord at 8:00 p.m. on December 1, 2011, at his home.

He was born on December 30, 1925 in Chillicothe, OH, to the late Obadiah, Sr., and Esther Mae Adams Harris. On February 10, 1953 he married Mary Ellen Cooper who preceded him in death; they were married for 58 years.

Also preceding him in death was his son, Bernard Harris; 2 brothers, and 6 sisters. Surviving are his sons, Obadiah E. (Karen) Harris III, of Chillicothe; and Timothy (Tanya) Harris, of Indianapolis, IN; 7 grandchildren; Obadiah E. (Andrea), Karrin, Brandon (Angie), Bradley, Timothy II (Andrea) Harris, Taquoya (Eldon) Porter, and Brooke (Houmed) Garad; 8 great-grandchildren, Donavin, Zion, Ethan, Erin, Lindsay, Timothey III, Brianna, and Cooper Marie; a daughter-in-law Betty Jo Harris; a host of nieces and nephews, and special friends Gordon and Sonja Smith.

Mr. Harris was a dedicated member of Lifting Up Jesus Church where he served as a Sr. Deacon. He retired in 1981 from the VA Medical Center where he was the Chief of Food Service Production. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Harris was a devoted son, father and grandfather. The family would like to acknowledge the special care administered by his granddaughter Karrin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, at the Original Glorious Church of God in Christ, 123 W. Main St., Chillicothe, with his sons, Pastors Obadiah and Timothy Harris officiating. Military graveside services conducted by the Ross Co. Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the Church on Saturday.
